Frequently Asked Questions on CBD oil

Frequently Asked Questions on CBD oil

What is CBD?

CBD is short for “Cannabidiol” and is one of the most commonly known active compounds found in the hemp plant - amongst many others, such as THC, CBG etc. While THC is psychoactive, CBD is NOT psychoactive nor impairing and as such, has a wide range of reported/claimed benefits; from seizure control, arthritis relief, menstrual discomfort relief to name a few.

The hemp plant has flowers and this is where the naturally occurring compound of CBD is found and eventually isolated and extracted. Hemp plants and their hundreds of compounds have a deep history associated with medicine. This relationship between human civilisation and hemp as a medicine has been documented for thousands of years. It is only really in the last century where the hemp plant has been frowned upon due to laws in certain nations.

Scientists worldwide are still studying CBD oil to further understand how it works and affects the body. The developments are very promising with more progressed and discoveries being made each year. For example; recently in the USA, a CBD drug has been approved to help people with seizure disorders - these are promising steps in the right direction for CBD.

What CBD product is best for me?

CBD products come in many different forms, each having their own benefit and use case. For example, there is CBD in the form of; CBD oil, CBD balm, CBD capsule, CBD vape, CBD coffee, CBD sweets and CBD edibles. There are even professional chefs who cook food with CBD (and THC in some cases) in restaurants and other venues. Andrea Drummer is one example of an executive chef who cooks with CBD oils.

Finding what product works best for you is a combination of experience, preference and desired outcome. For example, if you seek CBD to help alleviate problems with arthritis, CBD balms or other topicals will likely be the best product to use. They can be applied accurately to the area of concern and get to work quickly.

  • CBD oil drops are the most traditional and common consumption method of CBD, they are a very good way to build up or control dosage. CBD oils are better consumed via pipette, with the oil dropped under the tongue and allowed to absorb over time.
  • CBD capsules are generally consumed when the user doesn't like the taste of CBD oil. Taking a CBD capsule will allow the user to avoid the taste and need for having oil under their tongue. You simply swallow the CBD capsule the same way you would any other tablet/capsule.
  • CBD balm will allow the user to put CBD on an affected area topically without the need to swallow a capsule or oil. This can be very effective for specific issues and is a quick, efficient process.
  • CBD vapes are one of the most effective ways for a user to absorb CBD. Users inhale the vapour into their lungs, where the CBD is infused rapidly into their bloodstream. Vaping CBD is a good alternative for users who have issues swallowing and cannot consume CBD oil or CBD capsules.
  • CBD coffee is a good way of consuming CBD within a users normal daily routine. You can use a specific CBD coffee shot product which is added directly to a coffee and consumed as normal. Often these products can be consumed with other liquid drinks, both hot and cold.
  • CBD patch is a relatively new absorption method. CBD Transdermal patches are applied to the body, such as the side of your upper arm and can be worn for up to 48hr. Generally CBD patches allow for slower and longer infusion into the bloodstream.

After reading the above, its clear that 'what CBD product is best' largely depends upon the individual user, their needs, preference and ability to consume certain products.

How long does CBD last?

In the body, CBD can have a half-life ranging from 1 hour to 5 days. Ultimately there is no exact timeline, how long does CBD last will depend on many variables such as; activity, individual biochemistry (metabolism, tolerance), food and drink consumption etc. The type/product of CBD consumed will also have an impact on the duration of CBD; CBD oil consumption will last for a different time compared with a CBD vape for example.

It is widely considered that body fat impacts the length of time that CBD will stay in a users system. Those with more body fat will typically experience the effects of CBD lasting longer than users with less body fat. The reason for this is CBD can be stored in fat cells, similarly to other compounds from the hemp plant.

The following are very rough timelines as to how long CBD will last when consumed via different methods:

  • CBD oil - 4-6 hours
  • CBD capsules: 4-6 hours
  • CBD balm: 2-6 hours
  • CBD vape: 2-3 hours
  • CBD coffee: 4-6 hours
  • CBD patch: 12-48 hours

In short; there is no definitive answer for the question 'how long does CBD last?' but the above give you a rough idea of the potential time CBD lasts when consumed in various products.

How long does CBD take to work?

Similar to the above question; there is no exact answer here. 'How long does CBD take to kick in' also depends on many variables such as; serving size, activity, individual biochemistry, food and drink consumption etc. Another factor as discussed previously is the CBD product that has been consumed, this will have an impact on the length of time for the product to work.

Here is some estimated 'time taken before CBD kicks in' when consuming various products:

  • CBD oil - 10-30 minutes
  • CBD capsules: 20-60 minutes
  • CBD balm: 10-20 minutes
  • CBD vape: 2-10 minutes
  • CBD coffee: 10-30 minutes
  • CBD patch: 40-60 minutes

Remember, all the figures are a rough guide but ultimately it depends on the individual as to how long various CBD products take to work in the system.

Will I get high from CBD?

No, you will not get high from CBD. Cannabidiol is not impairing at all, meaning you cannot get 'high' from consuming CBD.

CBD can make you feel calm and relaxed but you will not get intoxicated from consuming CBD in any form; CBD oil, CBD vape, CBD capsules etc.

On the topic; it is highly important to buy your CBD products from reputable sources where the products have been tested. If you purchase 'home made' CBD products that haven't been tested or manufactured correctly, they might contain THC, which is the compound that can make you feel high.

The products sold on Loja CBD are manufactured from organically grown EU approved hemp, containing zero THC.

How much CBD oil should I take?

Once again, there is no definitive answer here, it is very much dependent on the individual. It is always best to start with a smaller dose and build the dose up over time.

For some aliments only a small dose is required to achieve the desired results. Whereas others will require a higher dose. This can take a couple of weeks for the individual to establish what dose is correct and how best to benefit themselves.

There are many calculations online, however it's best for the user to experiment privately.

When buying CBD products, it is very important you confirm if the CBD is compliant or not. All products sold via our store are compliant across multiple jurisdictions.

Does CBD oil expire?

Typically CBD oil or other products should be consumed within 12-24 months after extraction. This ensures maximum benefit for the user from the CBD compound.

Depending on how the CBD products are store will also impact this timeline. There are many natural factors which can impact the degradation process of CBD, ranging from (but not limited to), exposure to light, heat and air. To retain maximum benefit, all CBD products should be stored correctly as per manufacturer guidelines.
